Security Fencing with Morgan Sindall

Integrated Fencing are a preferred contractor to Morgan Sindall construction, one of the largest construction companies in the UK.

As part of the 21st century schools and colleges programme Integrated Fencing are playing a major role in the design, supply and installation of security fencing, railings, gates and automation for Morgan Sindall and many other construction companies.

Integrated Fencing are also delighted to win the award for ‘Innovation Contractor of the year 2022’ which is a great achievement for our team.

Tirdeunaw school is in a challenging area of South Wales therefore the quality of the product was very important. All materials had to be very robust due to the high winds and all perimeter fencing had to be Secured by Design accredited.

Integrated Fencing have been involved with and accredited with Secured by Design for many years and appreciate the amount of work that goes into the testing and design of each Secured by Design product especially when it comes to security in schools and colleges.

The first stage of the project was ensuring the construction of the site was secure meaning members of the public could not enter the site during the construction phase. As a preferred contractor to Morgan Sindall, Integrated Fencing worked with the site team ensure the hoarding was designed and constructed to meet the temporary works design in place.

The permanent fencing was also designed to a very high specification where we supplied and installed high security EX Mesh fencing to the 1200 linear metre perimeter of the site. The steel posts were designed and calculated to a high specification and set in enlarged concrete foundations at 3m centres. The EX Mesh is a Secured by Design product and has anti climb properties.

We then designed, supplied and installed large double leaf gates to suit an 8m opening for buses and larger vehicles to the bus bays, 5m opening double leaf gates to the staff and parent car park areas.

We also installed single leaf pedestrian gates across the site also for parent, child and staff access throughout the school.

We also installed single leaf pedestrian gates across the site also for parent, child and staff access throughout the school.

The design of the school was to segregate different parts of the school so that children of all ages had their own designated areas to play. In these areas we supplied and installed our Play-safe Railing system which is designed so that children can play withing these areas safely with no entrapment points. Gates were also manufactured and installed in all areas.

The school has a large bus drop off and collection area with 6 bus bays within the park, each bus bay required a safety railing system to prevent children and staff coming into contact with a moving bus.

We were tasked with the design, supply and installation of our pedestrian guardrail system and installed over 500 linear metres in this area alone. This system is in place so that the children can wait for the bus in a secluded area with the comfort of our pedestrian guardrail preventing any buses breaking through this barrier.

One of the main features of the school is the playing fields and we had the very difficult task of designing a system that met Secured by Design up to 2.4m high however it also had to act as a sports fencing and to achieve a height of 6m. As you can imagine this is not a standard system off the shelf therefore we designed the large steel posts to be installed at 2.5m centres in oversized concrete excavations over 1.2m deep.  At 6m high this system was extremely challenging both in design and installation however the school and client are delighted with the end result.

As well as the above fencing we also designed, supplied and installed timber fencing to the sprinkler enclosures and bin enclosures. These consisted of a mixture of timber featheredged fencing to the bin stores and timber hit and miss fencing to the sprinkler tanks. We also supplied and installed gates for access in all areas to suit.

What the client had to say

It did not go unnoticed that you were put in a very difficult predicament by the failings of our ground works contractor but despite this, you and your team stuck at it working late nights and weekends to help us achieve the completion date. It’s very rare to see a Managing Director rolling his sleeves up to help his team out but you did this on numerous occasions in atrocious weather conditions and on weekends and for this we cannot thank you enough. This leads me on to your site team who worked extremely close with our site team for the duration of the project and despite the extreme weather and ground conditions they simply got on with it. They’re attitude and willingness to complete the job in hand is fantastic, this together with the standard of work produced all makes for a winning team. I have worked with numerous quality men over the last 30 years, and this has to be up there as one of the best. Please pass on our thanks to your team. Thanks again for your efforts on the project and we wish you every success in the future and hope your business grows. It has been a pleasure working with you on YGGT and we look forward to the prospect of working with you in the near future. July 2022
