PROJECT OVERVIEW
Integrated Fencing Ltd was appointed by Morgan Sindall as the lead Fencing Contractor for the new Penygawsi School in RCT. This project was part of the MIMS school’s framework, aimed at replacing older school buildings with a new, state-of-the-art facility. Integrated Fencing, specializing in fencing and gate packages for the educational sector, prioritized a secure and well-designed solution from the outset.
THE CHALLENGE
The primary challenge was to create a secure environment for the school children and protect the school’s assets. This required a comprehensive security strategy, working closely with the Designing out crime officer to understand the specific security needs of the scheme. The project also involved designing various fencing and gate solutions for different areas of the school grounds, including play areas, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), recycling and plant enclosures, and addressing a significant drop in site levels. Furthermore, temporary site security was required during the two-year construction phase.
Our Solution
Integrated Fencing provided a comprehensive suite of fencing and gate solutions tailored to the specific needs of Penygawsi School:
PERIMETER SECURITY
A 2.4m high Secured by Design 200x25mm anti-climb mesh security fence was installed around the entire perimeter of the school. The fencing materials were hot-dipped galvanized and polyester powder-coated green to ensure durability and blend aesthetically with the surroundings. Matching anti-climb vehicle gates of various widths and sizes were designed and installed.
ACCESS GATES
Pedestrian gates with state-of-the-art remote access control systems were implemented, allowing the school to manage access from the reception area.
SAFE PLAY AREAS
The Integrated Play-safe railing system was designed and installed to create secure play areas outside the classrooms. These railings included matching gates fitted with Integrated soft closers to prevent finger entrapment, ensuring child safety.
MULTI-USE GAMES AREA (MUGA)
The Integrated Heavy Gauge Twin Wire Rebound System was installed for the MUGA. This robust system features 8mm and 6mm welded wires for durability and a rebound panel designed for intense sports activities.
PLANT ENCLOSURES
Acoustic fencing was required for the plant enclosures to mitigate noise from generators. Integrated Fencing offered both timber and recycled plastic acoustic solutions. The client opted for the maintenance-free recycled plastic system in charcoal grey. The panels were fixed to galvanized steel columns, with full wind loading calculations and design for posts and concrete foundations.
OUTCOME
The Penygawsi School project was completed to an extremely high standard. Integrated Fencing successfully delivered a comprehensive and secure fencing and gate package that met the specific needs of the school, ensuring the safety of pupils and the security of school assets. The collaborative approach with the Designing out crime officer and the provision of tailored solutions for various areas of the school grounds contributed to the project’s success.
